Passenger Trains > NJ: status of multi-level EMU development?Date: 12/08/19 17:26 NJ: status of multi-level EMU development? Author: Lackawanna484 How's the project to develop multi-level, electric multi-unit trains coming along at NJ Transit? For a while, they seemed convinced they could do away with the locomotive, and add another car to the train. That has a benefit in the relatively short platforms to which NJ Transit is often assigned at NY Penn.
(That ignores the problem of weight in the current un-powered ML coaches, of course.) Date: 12/10/19 09:47 Re: NJ: status of multi-level EMU development? Author: Jishnu Lackawanna484 Wrote:

I believe an order for MLPs and additional MLVs has either already been placed or is imminent. They are supposed to be available in a couple of years. What is the problem with weight of the MLVs, other than in the minds of railfans? Date: 12/10/19 19:11 Re: NJ: status of multi-level EMU development? Author: joemvcnj The RVL has 8 MLV and 2 Comet train sets. The Comets make 5 minutes better time. That can easily be benchmarked against upto 5 years ago when all 10 sets were MLV's.

(MLV = Multi-Level Vehicle? And as for terminology ... [curmudgeon alert!} a Vehicle is an automobile. A Car is a railroad car. Ever hear anyone refer to a "boxvehicle"?) Date: 12/11/19 12:44 Re: NJ: status of multi-level EMU development? Author: Duna JGFuller Wrote:

LRV = Light Rail Vehicle, etc... A black sedan driven by a stranger, tractor, spacecraft, elevator... all vehicles. |
