Stringer seems a little strung up. Maybe the MTA should just run the cars without regard for safety until somebody gets hurt. Bombardier sold them lemons, maybe Boeing could do better, oh wait.

A couple of years ago, Bombardier was banned from bidding on the M-9 MU commuter rail cars due to messing up this R179 order. They just retired the last of 50 R42 St Louis built cars last Monday, used on the J line. I don't know if any were put back, but there were some middle-of-the night equipment shifts this morning.

Yay!

Some of the best transit cars ever!   56 years old for the R32's, and just keep going.  And subway/EL service isnt particularly easy use either.    Not as nice as the new stuff from a crew comfort perspective, and noiser from a passenger perspective, and probably not as electrically efficient...but reltively simple and apparently hard to break and easy to fix...

Imagine what these NTT trains would be like if they hit 50 and 55 years old. They'll fall apart long before that.
