Kevink made a post a few days ago asking about what track project Amtrak might be working on requiring these welded rail trains:

There wasn't an answer yet in that thread. I was walking on Roosevelt on this gloomy morning and the welded rail train was still parked there. It is an interesting sight in this all-passenger location. I'm still very curious about what project the rail could be for.
