It is -21F at Edmonton and both VIA 1 and 2 are running within an hour of on time for Edmonton. What's happening with the Builders, my favorite US train? Just asking. That;s not to say VIA 1 = 2 have not had their share of timekeeping problems. And bet showers are froze.

But I guess if Seattle doesn't get the Builder, no one does. Chicago is out of train sets and most Empire Builders are turning at Spokane, if they can even get that part due to various weather along the route. Amtrak came out with a lot of cancellations and alternative transportation yesterday. 1/13/2020.

I know several times earlier today that they weren't, so land travel is a bit tricky right now from Seattle to Spokane.. You could just fly over the Cascades. ;^) SP8100 Date: 01/15/20 16:10 Re: Train 8-28 will Be bus to Spokane Jan 15-16-17 Author: alally8444 Seems like they could truncate the Seattle-Spokane section, and run the whole train to/from Portland until Stevens Pass is open. It wouldn't be that much of a hardship to hop a Cascades train down to PDX and ride the Empire Builder from there, to avoid riding a bus across WA.

If the train could operate from Spokane to Portland, not sure why Amtrak couldn't accommodate, other than having to send provisions down to Portland and a crew. Turning the consist at Portland should be OK. Shortened consist right now and Portland services the Empire Builder section anyway.........This would save on the buses - hop on a Cascades train in Portland from Portland to Everett! Date: 01/15/20 22:53 Re: Train 8-28 will Be bus to Spokane Jan 15-16-17 Author: mundo Portland has only a very small crew to service trains 27-28, so more folks would need to go down to Portland to handle 7-8..
Train 28 of Jan 15 did operate Portland - Spokane, but 2 hrs late account mechanical.
