Santa Rosa, CA Police are searching for a man seen with a shotgun in West Santa Rosa. As a result, SMART trains, whose tracks are nearby, have been stopped for about 2 1/2 hours. SMART is trying to set up a bus bridge between Rohnert Park and Santa Rosa Downtown.

UPDATE 545pm: Police have released their shutdown of the area. Trains will be resuming operations with delays.

Community: Santa Rosa man arrested for possessing, negligent discharge of a firearm (SRPD case No. 20-2053)

On Saturday, February 8, 2020, at 2:21 p.m., Santa Rosa Police officers responded to the 100-block of Sebastopol Road for a man with a gun in the area.  The reporting party told SRPD Dispatch that a male subject had taken a firearm out of his vehicle and was last seen walking into the parking lot of a business near Sebastopol Road and Roberts Avenue.  The reporting party also told Dispatch that he heard shots fired.
 
As officers began arriving in the area, they established a perimeter, evacuated several workers, and began a search for the suspect.  The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the search with their helicopter and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (drones).  The Santa Rosa Police Department’s K-9 unit, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (drones) and SWAT team also responded to take over the search for the armed man.  Traffic in the area was rerouted, and the SMART train stopped operations temporarily while the search was being conducted.
 
The suspect was eventually located and surrendered.  Sixty-Two-year-old Santa Rosa resident Karl Walburg was interviewed by the Santa Rosa Police Department’s Violent Crimes Investigations Team and later booked at the Sonoma County Jail on the following charges:

• Felon in possession of a firearm, 29800(a)(1) PC,
• Brandishing a firearm, 417(a)(2) PC,
• Negligent discharge of a firearm, 246.3 PC
• Vandalism, 594(a) PC.
