Passenger Trains > New York Operations with 14 Day Quarantine

With Dr. Birx stating people who leave the NY area need to quarantine for 14 days, how is Amtrak still operating anything in or out of the city?

It would seem like the smart thing would be to truncate Long Distance trains at DC or Philly and send the Lake Shore to Boston, operate everything else through without stopping between Metropark and Stamford, end the Empire service at Albany.

Airlines should be at a full stop to with this order.

Will it happen?

I heard that at one of the Florida airports that they were taking temperatures of everyone that got off of a flight from the New York area.  It may be happening at many of the airports.  They are also asking people from that area to self-quarantine for 14 days.  That's going to b a bummer if you were only spending the week there.

There is also some talk about shutting down some of the airlines or some airports.  Many of the airlines are flying with 20% of the seats sold.

My son in law had to fly from San Diego to San Francisco today for work on medical equipment. He was on Southwest and only had 3 people on the airplane.
Now my granddaughter today few from Spokane to San Diego on Southwest had 13 people. College was closing down for the rest of the term.
Airline did not make any money on the flights.

From Florida Governor: If you are flying in from Ny, Washington, or CA you are required to go into 14 day curtain if you refuse you will be put in jail. But it you come by car, or train you are ok to enter the state.

There is at least some irony in sending people who aren’t taking infection seriously to jails, where the rate of infection is likely to be sky high. 

Jail?  A Florida jail?  No thanks. 

And note that  forehead temperature screening does not appear to be effective, not even minimally effective, at identifying the infected.

In the words Florida Governor LePetomane, "We have to protect our phoney baloney jobs here, gentlemen! We must do something about this immediately! Immediately! Immediately! Harrumph! Harrumph! Harrumph!"  

Of 52,000 Covid-19 cases in the USA, New York City and suburbs have 26,000.  Fully half of them.  So movement by New Yorkers is suspect.

Yup. 

In addition, New York has done far more testing per capita than other areas of the USA.  Without testing, you don't know what you don't know.

Yes.  Several Florida counties were happy that they showed NO reported coronavirus.  Once they began testing first responders, police, medical staff, etc the numbers went up substantially.
