Passenger Trains > The hits keep coming for Amtrak #58(26)Date: 03/27/20 10:14 The hits keep coming for Amtrak #58(26) Author: bodkin6071 Amtrak 58 this morning experienced mechanical problems with its P42 somewhere between Memphis and Dyersburg. A freight engine had to be brought down from Fulton (!) to rescue it. It finally pulled into Carbondale, IL at 0912, and finally departed at 0959. Imagine my surprise when the freight unit was a GTW GP38-2, running long hood forward...

Of course, one loco can "pull it" - but the desirable redundancy of a second engine, prevents terrible passenger ordeals like this.
