#s 5 and 6
Author: lowwater

The CHI-DEN #5/6 is not showing up, and AMTK's Train Status reports both it and today's #6 to DEN are shown with the dreaded "Service DIsruption" notice. Are they both annulled now as well as all service west of Denver?

Train 5 stopped in Naperville this afternoon even though Julie said service disruption. I think she's confused with the route being truncated in the middle.

#5 was on time leaving Chicago through Western Springs, IL today (2 engines, 2 sleepers, diner, lounge and two coaches).

A second LD train set followed west 10-15 minutes later with the same consist + a baggage car on the rear.

#3 was then also on time with two engines and a 5 car consist (only 1 sleeper).

Any idea what the "extra" LD train set was between #5 and #3.  The timing matches the Empire Builder but I'm not sure why that would be on the BSNF Chicago Sub.

#4 and #5 were also on time, only about 3 -4 minutes apart.

Both #5 and #6 will be considered SERVICE DISRUPTION as long an the Emeryville to Denver portion of the Zephyr is not running. Granted occasionally number 6 will show up but not always.  Incidentally, it appears the servicee may be restored this Sunday, April 12, as that is when the 14 day quarantine of the Salt Lake City Amtrak crew base expires and according to Amsnag that is when sales are permitted.

Be interesting to see if this happens. I don't know the details of Utah's 'quarentine', but next door here in Colorado our Governor has just extended our 'stay at home' order from this Saturday to April 26th. While in and of itself not really an order, he basically closed all resorts, restaurants, and bars, and between his actions coupled with similar orders from most cities/counties, most 'non-essential' businesses are closed as well. I suspect that in Colorado, at least, railroads in general are considered an essential service and are running close to normally.

Utah doesn't care about its population nor does Wyoming. No stay at home orders. Just go out and spread the germs

The Salt Lake City Quarantine was strickly a CREW BASE 14 DAY QUARANTINE since one of the crew members had been exposed to the virus.  That quarantine apparently ends this weekend thus the westbound 5 on the 12th will go all the way through to Emeryville.  I understand since there are two consists of the Zephyr in Oakland now, the first Emeryville departure will be Monday, April 13.

Yet the population of the two states are distributed very differently. Most of Utah's are between Provo and Ogden, and it is dense enough there to support commuter train service and LRT service in SLC. Wyoming - not so.

The only things Wyoming has lots of is space and wind. Lots and lots of wind!

That's not true for Wyo. Schools are closed and all spring sports cancelled. Restaurants are delivery/take out only. Barber shops, beauty salons, etc.closed. Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks are closed. No large groups allowed. UW campus is closed, dorms almost empty, even the library is closed. I just taught a class using Zoom. I'm not sure how much more we'd be impacted if they did a full stay-at-home order.

Ah, I understand now. Thanks! Be good to have them back. While I don't expect they'll have much business for awhile, at least some modicum of 'social distancing' is possible on on a train, not so much on a plane or bus.

In Utah, restaurants are closed too, take out only...schools have been closed for at least 2 weeks, maybe 3...so it's not business as usual ...my daughter is a massage therapist and has not worked in 3 weeks...
