Always liked the looks of the E-60's.

They were the "E" units of the time, lean and mean unlike today's
stubby Euro-looking but efficient "junk".

Never saw them in person, but remember a model of one in the Walther catalog. I too liked the looks of them. That sure was an interesting mix of equipment. Way more variety than what I remember in Northern California.

Yes! For the split in Jacksonville. Consists made more sense back then it seems. Even with the number of Amfleets and Heritage Sleepers, still looks like more capacity than what was offered with the Amfleet/Viewliner combo Pre-COVID 19........

Wow! Sounds like the NEC was  mimicking major leaque  "slider" stops at every station...holy cow!
Must've sounded wonderful  aboard...for hours...and hours
Amjunk's Alka Seltzer Express.
Not for me.

Correct, train 81/91 "Silver Star" split in Jax with 81 leaving Jax the back way to Baldwin and down the S Line to Tampa.  91 went straight down the A Line to Miami.  Normal length of the train was 16-17 cars.

In the summer of 1996 I rode Amtrak from Colombia, SC to Philly and from DC north I sat in the cafe car watching the E60 pulling us at 100mph+. It was my first trip on the NEC, and the last time I rode behind an E60.

The first train was not one of the Silvers. It had mostly all Heritage equipment and no Slumbercoach. Both the Star and Meteor had Amfleet 2 coaches since 1982 or 83, and both had Slumbercoaches. The first train was most likely Train 19, the Crescent, to New Orleans..

An E60 pulling you at 100+? I seriously doubt that, as they were restricted to no more than 90, and by 1996, I doubt they could even make it to that speed..

Surprised to see so many heritage coaches in the mid 1990's...

The 'hunting' E60s... Restricted to 90 for many years after the unsuccessful test run due to the aforementinoed hunting, but really miss the days of having them around.  That first train may be the Crescent/Gulf Breeze, as it's post '89 so it was split.

Timetable limit was 80 until they became 600s --
then 90.

Truth to tell, I think I rode behind one at 90 mph
in the 1970s. Anyone got an Amtrak empl TT
allowing that then?

(No, the timetable said 80 mph for them in April
1978, when we ran 12 miles in 7 min 53 sec.)

Maybe it was 90, I was timing mileposts in my head and counting 30 seconds in between.

One of them was definitely the Crescent/Gulf Breeze as it too was aligned for a split mid-route with the way the cars were setup. I think Amtrak could do more with the combine and split (e.g. Empire Builder, Lake Shore Limited, etc.) to serve more markets efficiently.

You are correct. Just checked, and found it.  June of '81 (Gen. order 209) max 50 Lite, 80 w/train  nos. 950-975.

That was a great video... I rode from Montreal to Orlando and back in 1980 1981 with my uncle. What a trip ! That,s what The Florida and Crescent trains should look like today...:(:(:(
