NJT's RVL River Road Bridge is finally done
Author: Pattenburg

NJT's Train 8527 passes beneath the new River River Road Bridge and is slowing down for its 4:39 stop at North Branch (NJ). The new bridge is 81 feet and 9 inches long with a 30 foot width. Compare that with the old bridge which was 81 feet long but only 14 feet wide. After the train passed, I noticed this object bolted to a tie near the bridge. Any idea as to what its purpose was? Inquiring minds, namely me, would like to know

That is a prism or a "point" for surveyors and thier newest equipment.

Don't know what that is. My guess would be some type of marker for surveying. Possibly used to measure any shifting of the bridge or roadbed. I've seen similar markers on walls of buildings in earthquake prone areas used for such purpose.

Looks to me like a signal showing "restricted" speed...........

Its not and won't be open for a while. The small bridge is at Station Road is also being replaced which accounts for this closure.
