Those signal maintainers ain't getting any younger!

I'm hoping BNSF sends a few daily freights over this line again, vs. using the "long way around" routes...

PSR:  "Please Ship via Raton"

Given that BNSF's attempts to sell the line have evidently failed, why not use it as a slow freight reliever for the Transcon. It would seem perfect for empty autotracks, etc. 

Forget the stairs. Just raise and lower the cantilever as  needed.

Why not just eliminate the interlocking, and install a pair of ground mast intermediate signals? Do these crossovers get used all that much? I can't imagine they do with only two train movements per day. (Soon to become six per week as Amtrak shrinks its way to prosperity.)
