I'm hoping BNSF sends a few daily freights over this line again, vs. using the "long way around" routes...

Given that BNSF's attempts to sell the line have evidently failed, why not use it as a slow freight reliever for the Transcon. It would seem perfect for empty autotracks, etc.

Why not just eliminate the interlocking, and install a pair of ground mast intermediate signals? Do these crossovers get used all that much? I can't imagine they do with only two train movements per day. (Soon to become six per week as Amtrak shrinks its way to prosperity.)
