That is what happen when you add a Private rail car to a Amtrak train. They just cannot made the grade. Private car causing problems again.
Norm, Tioga Pass at it again. Good luck.

I swear at least 1/4 of the southwest chief trips must end up having a broken down locomotive. It’s just pathetic. Imagine all the cost of overtime, missed connections, locomotive rental, re-crew costs, and lost repeat business because of this unreliability. As usual at Amtrak it’s pathetic management at work. They should be assigning the most recently overhauled best power to these long haul trains instead of assigning whatever piece of junk is sitting around.

With all the older power now available as a result of the Siemens units, the company can't find a third unit?I

This isn't rocket science.

What Siemens units??? Those all belong to various states. The one's supposedly ordered for Amtrak have yet to be delivered.

I can't believe there wasn't a spare BNSF unit available at Albuquerque.

What happened to The P42 units made surplus by the state units?

My question was pretty clear.

Why?

I believe that freight traffic at Albuquerque is handled by trains out of Belen. It is not BNSF's responsibility anyway to provide protection for Amtrak's decrepit power. And anyway, if more late trains result in more "Never Agains" and lower ridership and revenue, that plays right into the plans of Stephen "Evil Steve" Gardner and his Northeastern Mob.

and WHERE is all of the emotion and anger of those who advocate taking host/freight railroads to court for their delays to amtrak?

Hey!  I wonder what NMRX would think about borrowing a MP36PH?

There aren't any.

The vast majority of the units replaced by State owned/controlled Siemens Charger units were F59PHIs which the majority of those were sold to Metra.

But you already know that.

Yes what happen to all the P42? The chief used to run with 4 and 5 P42 and spare engines in ABQ and Spokane.

4 or 5? That was when they ran the M and E crap, proper maintenance is lacking, at it isn't hard to figure that out, btw No. 3's 53 minutes late out of Gallup and doing 74, don't think a freight motor was added this time or a power swap for no. 4!

#3 picking up a BNSF engine at Winslow. Must have given a engine to #4 at ABQ.

Amtrak kept a spare P42  in Abq back when their traction motor probs were popular.  BNSF always has a couple locos parked by the Abq yard to move freight off the Transcon in  nearby Belen.

Just a bit of sarcasm there Dennis? You're just jealous, we know that!

There is no baggage car on this #4 and those of us who know the line know that even with a shortened consist it would be difficult for just one engine to make it up the pass, even shedding HEP for the assent.

And these pitiful AMTRAK locos on #3 and #4 always following the old saying, "I think I can, I think I can, I thought I could, I thought I could".
