Passenger Trains > 12-hour late Amtrak No. 4 at Lawrence, KS

Amtrak's No. 4 Southwest Chief was running slightly more than a half-day late when it departed the depot at Lawrence, KS, on the BNSF Topeka Sub. ; late Tuesday afternoon, July 7, 2020.

This train had hit a long delay on Monday when it was caught behind a BNSF derailment east of Winslow, Arizona.  There was no detour route available.

No. 4 departed Lawrence at 5:14 p.m., the same minute it officially arrived. It paused at the station for just a few seconds. There were no riders getting off or on. The train was officially 12 hours, 7 minutes late pulling into the Lawrence station.

The train looked pretty clean!  I saw it crossing 10th St. in Topeka, but was too busy to try and film it.  Thanks Larry!

Reminds me of a trip I had several years back on # 4 when we arrived Chicago at 3am. The line at the customer service desk was a block long with folks trying to get a hotel voucher. I just gave up, got a cab and went straight to the hotel. Probably set a record number of " never agains" that night ???
