What Delayed #449 at Worcester Today ?

The train left Boston on time and arrived Worcester 2:10 pm and departed WOR at 3:06 pm. Arrived Springfield 56 minutes late. Trip from BOS to SPG took 3 hrs, 24 minutes to cover the 98 mile route. ETA Albany 6:40 pm, some 40 minutes late.

Anybody know if the train had engine problems or if track work or something else caused the delay ? TIA

I've ridden #449 BOS->SPG maybe 30 times in the past 20 years or so and about 25% of those times, we were held at the platform in Worcester for an eastbound intermodal train to the Worcester intermodal ramp.  Shortly after leaving the platform, the line goes to single track.  I'm not sure where the next passing siding is, but waiting 30-60 minutes for the opposing train to arrive seems to be the norm.  A couple of times it was only 10-15 minutes, though.

Double track extends to CP-48, ~3 miles west of Union Station.    After that it goes back to doulbe track at CP-57, but the siding between there and CP-60 is often used to store autoracks being switched at East Brookfield.

IIRC, the ETT used to say no passenger trains allowed on the Brookfield Siding.  That means, then, that the next opportunity to meet a train is at Palmer.  Way too much of a distance, if true.

That puts 448 and 449 in a bad position, especially if the trains are on time!
