Amtrak 192, P42DC, led Amtrak train 5 the California Zephyr, past Wiggins, CO, 7 August 2020.  New York Central 3 named Portland owned by Lovett Smith brought up the markers.

I would assume yes. I believe Amtrak is only allowing switch moves at terminating locations.

Not true. They can go to denver. Any station with a "minimum dwell time". In this case yes, they are going all the way to Emeryville and then back to Chicago and east coast. 

Classic car. Too bad Amtrak won't allow use of the open platform when moving. Back in the day, many public passenger trains had observation cars with open platforms. Overseas, some still do with no restrictions at all. Closer to home the Rocky Mountaineer is another example. 

Private Varnish (PV) New York Central 3 named PORTLAND was on Amtrak train 5, the California Zephyr.  UP dispatcher had BNSF Provo, UT, to Denver, CO, hold the main while Amtrak used Eisele Siding just south of Coal Creek Canyon west of Arvada, Colorado, 7 August 2020.
