What is the longest continuous (no change) train trip possible
from GCT?  Not a quiz. I don't know. Is it Poughkeepsie?

Seems to me it's Wassaic NY on the Harlem line.

Are there through trains to Wassaic?  Otherwise, it's Poughkeepsie at 74 miles, the New Haven at 72.

Yes Poughkeepsie at 74 miles is the longest single seat ride from GCT.

Service to Wassaic requires change of trains at Southeast.

There are Penn Station - Montauk direct trains.

Of course, during the Empire Corridor shift to GCT last year, the greatest distance would have been 960 miles (Lake Shore), or the Maple Leaf to Toronto, the same trains from back when AMTRAK used GCT before the Empire connection was built.

It's a shame they can't run (won't run?) single seat rides from Wassaic to GCT

The New York section of the Lake Shore Ltd was discontinued summer 2018 for that reason. GCT could not service the consist. Only the Maple Leaf and Adirondack did overnight.

North of Brewster is not electrified. Ridership is also very light. There has been dual-mode rush hour thru trains in the past. I don't know what the current situation is.

 Southeast-Wassaic is served M-F only since pandemic by Southest-Wassaic trains. Change at Southeast for other Harlem line stations. See schedules at mta.info

Yes, I don't know what they are doing now, but when I lived in Northwest CT 5 years ago, they had some rush hour thrrough trains with dual mode P32's.

may not be running during COVID, but there are normally a number of through trains each day between GCT and Wassaic. 

In pre-covid times, there are multiple through trains during the rush hour from Wassaic to Grand Central Terminal and back and on weekends, one through train in each direction. That's a very long ride-82 miles to travel in a little over two hours.
