Trains and Stations: Hinton, WV
Author: bandob

The station is a former Chesapeake and Ohio Railway depot, and is located in the Hinton Historic District. Constructed in 1905, the brick building includes wood canopies supported by heavy brackets featuring a wood-fan pattern trim. A New River Fall excursion train is at the depot in October, 2012.

Changed trains between the eastbound and westbound George Washington's at this station one spring evening at o-dark-thirty in the last year or so before Amtrak when i purchased a 30-day B&O/C&O rail pass.
Travelled all over the system for that month on extended weekends and college spring break.  There were no limits on how many trips over each line could be made with this pass, so I visited Chicago alone 3 times on the Capitol LImited, plus Louisville, Vincennes, Grand Rapids, Detroit, Akron, Grafton, Harpers Ferry, Pittsburgh from my "home bases" of Silver Spring and Washington, D.C.

I have worked a couple trips east out of Hinton....too far to drive from home to work that job very often, but do it once or twice a year to stay qualified.....one should see the yard office, for it is a classic as well....but you need to be an employee or have one escort you....
