Private Varnish on Eastbound LSL 48 today?

I happened to be traveling over the Tifft Street bridge this morning around 8:30 AM when Lake Shore Limited 48 passed under me. Looked like a private car tacked on the rear.  Couldn't get a good look at it as I was driving.  Just curious what it might have been. Kind of looked like a PRR car.   This train arrives at the Depew station at 8:46 AM so it was pretty close to being on time.
