North Carolina DOT equipment returns to the Piedmont

Today marks the return of North Carolina DOT-owned locomotives and cars to Amtrak 73 and 76, the Raleigh-Charlotte" Piedmonts."  73 and 76 had been operating with Amfleet coaches and P42s since the service was reinstated.  73 has four heritage cars and two locomotives this morning.  

Along with the news about the equipment (which many riders considers more comfortable and spacious than conventional Amfleet cars), complimentary coffee and water, along with vending machine food, have returned and are available in the “Bogue Sound."

Thanks.  Been wanting to go for a ride on this for awhile but only in the NC equipment.

These are from five years ago, but I'm not aware that they have changed significantly.  Also, they were squeeky-clean.

At this point it's hard to say when the other four Piedmonts (74, 75, 77, and 78) might return. Or the fifth pair that had been contemplated but not started before COVID-19 set in. NCDOT remains under financial pressure and just announced a widespread postponement of highway and transit projects across the state. One of them was double-tracking the CSX A-line for three miles over the Roanoke River at Weldon.
