Did they ask the city for any money for the new platform?  That's a change in policy, if they didn't insist on it.

Since Amtrak wants to exit the long distance passenger business, I hope the city of Holdrege does not invest any serious money.

The work was paid for out of the dedicated ADA compliance funding that Amtrak receives every year.

the Kearney Hub newspaper ran a story about the Holdrege issue      No bathrooms now for waiting passengers to use     No inside to use    Can't park next to the depot now   Have to park across the street in the city lot      Sad way to run a RR

So, let me get this straight. Amtrak spent money to improve ADA accessibility to their train (that they just cut back to 3 days a week), but removed parking, restrooms and an interior waiting area for passengers in Nebraska where winters are harsh? Did I get this right?

Way to serve the public.

I don't know what the issues were, but it sounds like the owner of the depot couldn't come to terms with Amtrak over the improved platform and the use of the building. The depot has other office space leased out by the owner and the former Amtrak space will also now be used for that purpose.
