Passenger Trains > MD: State still searching for a Purple Line partner

The state of Maryland is seeking a new private sector partner for its troubled Purple Line light rail project. The initial private partner bailed out on September 10, following years of delays, NIMBY issues, and construction issues.  The Purple Line is a rail project which skirts the Maryland edge of the District of Columbia, linking several densely populated residential and university communities.

The WaPo article suggests the financially strapped state doesn't want to take on any more liability for building thisproject than it already has.

I wish they would get it done. To travel from Silver Spring to Bethesda or Rockville, it means sweating out a circuitous, crowded trip on the WMATA Red Line though downtown or sweating out various, pokey "J" buses.
