Passenger Trains > Over the Chicago River and to Penns WoodsDate: 11/26/20 09:42 Over the Chicago River and to Penns Woods Author: RuleG Amtrak's Capitol Limited departs Chicago. The next day, it will be negotiating CSX's curvaceous route through the sylvanian splendor of Southwestern Pennsylvania on its way to Washington, DC.
Over the river, and to Penn's Woods, To Grandfather's house we go; The Capitol Limited's engineer knows the way to run the train Through the white and drifted snow. With apologies to Lydia Maria Child, who wrote the poem which subsequently became a song. More background about the song with the correct lyrics can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Over_the_River_and_Through_the_Wood Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. I think he’s referring to “SethAmtrak’s” post about the traction motor fire and the dead in the water #30 that Mr “SA” was referencing earlier... #837= B/O “Happy Thanksgiving” ... the NRPC version... 😖😢 Edited 1 time(s). The post was generic and not intended to refer to a specific Capitol Limited trip. As the was taken during the daylight, it was obviously not taken on Thanksgiving when the Capitol Limited would be departing Chicago in darkness. The post was written to meld an old Thanksgiving tradition with trains. It is depressing that PC1974 is so cynical that he is only capabable of a negative, sarcastic comment to my post which was only intended to be lighthearted holiday fun. |
