A few day ago PhotoBob gave us this excellent pic of CB&Q x-CZ 10&6 sleeper SILVER CHASM at Reno Nevada on Christmas Eve 1971.

The car name sounded familiar, but the details didn't come to me until today.

SILVER CHASM is one of 5 Amtrak sleepers on long term lease (with purchase option) to Via Rail Canada. Via has given the car a heavy shopping and a Via appearance. The net result is that SILVER CHASM will probably be hauling revenue passengers, through some snow, on Christmas Eve 2001 - thirty years to the day after this picture was taken and fifty three years after she left the Budd plant!

Correction - forty nine years after she left the Budd plant in 1952.
