Passenger Trains > NY: Gov Cuomo proposes expanding the High Line rail trail

NY Times discusses a plan to link the High Line, a former New York Central elevated rail line, with the new Moynihan train hall, and with a pier adjacent to the NY Waterway ferry.  Prior to the pandemic, the High Line had become a busy addition to the growing lower west side.

The High Line is amazing. I was suprised how much of the former railroad you can see when walking along the trial.
 

Ironically the former Southern terminus of the High Line, St. Johns Terminal, was torn down only a few months ago.

Agree with PacificElectric1961 - I never thought the High Line would be a tourist attraction, but it is a wonderful place to walk.  Judging from the last time I was there a few years ago, the large number of people using the walkway would attest to its popularity.

The High Line is directly responsible for much new and enhanced commercial and residential ratables in its area.

Don't worry -- none of Your tax payments are involved.

One of the most successful tourist attractions in New York City -- that has reaped countless additional development cash benefits to private individuals who have set up shop nearby -- is looking to have a direct connection to a facility that millions of folks use every year to enter New York City.

Sounds like a good idea to me.  Isn't that exactly what "Conservatives" were arguing was a good thing with "3P" Investments?

Good thing only if proposed by a GOP administration

I enjoyed walking part of the high line when I was in New York on one of my business trips a few years back. They did a fabulous job with the landscaping, leaving parts of the track to show the heritage, creating spots to sit and people watch, and the connections to the various streets were well done. While I always question the costs, call me skeptical, I do think the initial result has been spectacular.
