Zephyr in a Winter Wonderland
Author: ColoradoRailfan

Greetings!

Since the Zephyr moved to its thrice-weekly schedule, it has been difficult for me to get pictures of the westbound out of Denver. Mainly because there are three days of the week that I am almost always busy in the morning hours. You guessed it! Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday! The three days the Zephyr heads west.

Yesterday, however, the Zephyr was running a few hours late and this resulted in my typical Thursday morning meetings at worked having already ended when the train departed Denver Union Station. I set up for a shot of the Zephyr as it climbed toward Tunnel 1 on the UP Moffat Tunnel Sub, roughly 24 track-miles west of Denver. The night before saw several inches of fresh snow fall, and Thursday morning had mostly clear skies, creating a beautiful winter scene.

That is a nice image. I'm even more impressed if you climbed the hill (so many drone shots).

Well worth the effort. Threes nothing like climbing up to a vantage point instead of pushing some buttons on your airborne pixel maker.
