UK: Four legged purr-petrator delays London-Manchester train
Author: GenePoon

A cat was a whisker away from a 125mph ride on the roof of a train when it was spotted at London Euston station on Tuesday evening.

The fearless feline was seen curled up on top of an Avanti West Coast train half an hour before it was due to leave for Manchester.

The train was taken out of service and replaced with only a slight delay - but while passengers were able to continue their journey, the cat stayed put.

Hilarious! From the photo, he seems too be perched up there with an "attitude". <G> Cats do have a thing about higher vantage points--perhaps something to do with a hunting instinct.

I think that's right about the high perches.  We had a black longhair whom I had rescued from her being a stray in an apartment complex a few miles away.  We were always afraid she would run away to go back.  One afternoon she did run off during her daily walk in the back yard.  We could not find her, other than her collar under one of the cars parked in the street.  Depressed, I walked back into the house via the garage.

MEOW!!!

She was perched in the garage on the highest shelf. Probably had been watching the stupid human looking for her all that time.

I closed the garage doors and waited until her mealtime.  Sure enough...

She had a long and happy life.  Vet estimated her when we got her as age six, and on that basis, she lived to 21.

Geen:

I had a cat that would like to hide from a place that he could see you searching for him. Often, he would be looking right at you, and you didn't see him. And I'm sure he was enjoying every minute of it.

First thing to remember about cats, they have an attitude. Think teenager.

It was inspecting the catenary and they had to find a trainset with greater cat-deficiency.

No, he was looking for the PURR-FECT ride. I could just see him attempting to get his claws in the roof to hang on with his fur blowing up in the air and then being whisked across the top of the passenger train... If only I could draw cartoons.

Well this thread is deteriorating fast, so I might as I well continue hijacking it.

How do cats say in hello Texas? "Me-ow---deeee".

I wonder if they have "hot sticks", or whatever those insulated poles with the hooks on the end that can be used to pull a pan down [ and were* ( are ? ) mandated by the ICC/FRA ] are called, in Britain.  If so they could have just used one to nudge the cat down the sloped end of the unit instead of taking a trainset out of service -- or is this one of those cases where the privatization division between Train Operating Company and Station Ownership personnel had come into play..... Could the TOC charge Railtrack for the delay, etc, ?

Recently, there was a video on line of a cat rescue. The cat was in a tree and fire department put up its ladder to climb up and get it. But the cat climbed down the ladder before they could do that. LOL Once he was on the ground he took off running without a thank you. <G>
