Passenger Trains > Trip to Cold Spring, NYDate: 04/04/21 13:36 Trip to Cold Spring, NY Author: Passfanatic For the very first time since the pandemic started, I decided to take a trip on Metro North. I went to a rural community called Cold Spring, located on the Hudson Line in Putnam County. I received my COVID-19 vaccine on Thursday March 25th, so going forward, I can look forward to doing more railfanning trips now than what I did exactly a year ago. I took Metro North Train # 8819 out of Grand Central for a beautiful ride up the Hudson River to the Village of Cold Spring, NY. Let the pictures begin.
1. Two MNR Shoreliner Consists at Grand Central Terminal. The one on the left was the consist for Train # 8819. 2. Two MTA owned P32AC-DM units, each with their train. The one on the right, powered by the 206, is Train # 8819. 3. Interior of one of the oldest Shoreliner cars Date: 04/04/21 13:42 Re: Trip to Cold Spring, NY Author: Passfanatic 1. The former Garrison New York Central Station, now Phillipstown Playhouse. This is just west of the current Metro North Garrison Station.
2. Interior of one of the refurbished center door Shoreliners on MNR Train # 8819. This train was actually crowded heading up and it was great to see ridership improving on the MNR system, although it still has a long way to go. 3. Not having enough time to get a good shot of the power, I was able to get Amtrak Empire Service Train # 233 heading away from the Cold Spring Metro North Depot. An Amfleet I cafe/business class car trails. Power for this train was Amtrak/NYSDOT P32AC-DM # 701. Date: 04/04/21 13:55 Re: Trip to Cold Spring, NY Author: Passfanatic 1. Connecticut DOT owned Shoreliner Cab Car # 6207 leads southbound Metro North Train # 8832 into Cold Spring, NY Station, located behind me. On the left used to be where the low level platform station was.
2. One of my favorite paint schemes, the original New Haven RR livery, on P32AC-DC # 231 provides the power for Train # 8832 just as it pauses at Cold Spring Station 3. Southbound MNR Train # 8836, being led by Shoreliner Cab Car # 6105 in the MTA paint, approaches Cold Spring, NY Depot Date: 04/04/21 13:59 Re: Trip to Cold Spring, NY Author: Passfanatic 1. Date: 04/04/21 16:22 Re: Trip to Cold Spring, NY Author: Peak45068 I hope you visited Doug’s Pretty Good Pub while in Cold Spring.
I find it a great place to have a few beers after riding behind those very noisy P32’s up and down the Hudson Valley all day. That and the lovely Beacon. How I’ve missed visiting NY State. I suspect they may have detected some leakage.
