Unless I am confused as to the date, this appears to be a different consist and power that was at Hutch on Sat., June 19.  I assume your photo was taken 6-19-21 ?

I reread your comments and now believe you are talking about a late train today, Sun.   Sorry for the confusion.

Nice to see a dorm car with no. 4, but anyone know why he was so late?

Thanks Wes!  That is one bizarre consist.  I think at one time, Amtrak would have had the baggage car up front, with the transition car properly positioned behind it, even if it was deadheading.

I wonder if this is done so they don't have to turn the whole consist at each end of the run.

Deadhead cars are placed in a position where they cannot be used for service.  Ostensibly, it's because of inspection requirements and liability, now I think it's because of spite on the part of corporate.  In previous years, it would have been positioned at the rear like this for deadhead because of the different end door levels.  Bag car up front in service, of course.

Because it is late every day, three to five hours is the norm.  About the same for the CZ.  Don't even think of using #4 for a same day connection to anything other than the Lake Shore.  It USUALLY makes that one.  A pretty sad state of affairs.  The Chief used to fairly reliable, not no more.

Oh give me a break, if it wasn't for that autoroute things'd be a lot better, but it also sucks you say that without any explenations about it!
