TRE Conductor Stabbed by Angry Passenger in Fort Worth

Victim expected to recover from injuries

KXAS
By Scott Gordon

A conductor of a Trinity Railway Express train was stabbed by an angry passenger in Fort Worth Friday night, police said.

It happened downtown at the T&P station on West Lancaster Avenue.

A man who was trying to get on the train stabbed the conductor on the back of the neck and the rib cage, police said.

The conductor is expected to make a full recovery, TRE spokeswoman Laura Hanna said.

Hanna said police arrested a suspect but police said the assailant walked away and detectives were investigating.

So much for Texas being safe because everybody packs heat...

Well it doesn’t help that railroads refuse to allow their employees to protect themselves…

If he were jumped, which is most likely he case, his piece would not have come out quickly enough,
but like above said, he wasn't allowed anyway.

I'm interested in the part about "the police arrested the suspect" and "the suspect walked away".  It doesn't usually work that way.

NJ Transit Bus operations occasionally runs fare checks on the proof of payment Newark Light Rail. Two inspectors plus  NJT officers. Violators are removed and handcuffed to a fence until the officers make positive ID and issue tickets or bring them in.  It's not unusual to see 5-6 people awaiting the VIP transport to central booking.

I am surprised that the 'fence enhancements', even though temporary, have not brought out complaints of cruel and unusual punishment from the perpetually offended.

Sad to say, but security needs to be onboard. Too much lack of respect for rules and authority these days.

Tri-Rail in Florida bids out its security. I believe Broward county currently supplies the deputies.

That said, federal air marshals aren't exactly keeping the peace in the skies...

That's the advantage of a train vs. plane. On a train, throw someone off at a grade crossing in God's country for a free ride in a police Ford Explorer. But a plane needs to make a forced landing at a strange airport. They can't throw the perp out the door with a parachute.

Are they still employing air marshalls?

Isn't always that easy. A couple years ago on train 6, the Assistant Conductor had to sit on a passenger that almost hit him in the head with a metal pipe for 40 min until the Helper stop. I only had one trip with a Amtrak cop riding along and it was so nice.

Air marshals cover a very small percentage of flights.

Many of which are international flights. Or, to and from Reagan National.

Would've made our skies safer if they hired enough to protect domestic flights, no wonder 9/11 happened when it did!

Thinking more along the line of armed passengers coming to his defence. I guess not because that would require them to become involved.

I'd be fine with that, I guess that's why they don't let me make the rules.  I've slowly come to the realization that the BIGGEST mistake our founding fathers may have made was that line about "Cruel and unusual punishment".  In case you are wondering, I'm only HALF joking........

The definition of cruel and unusual punishment has evolved over the years. In the time of Henri IV (1610) drawing and quartering was common.

Witches were burned at the stake in 1692 in what would become the US.

Now, that includes not having satellite radio available....
