CHI departures 9/19/21
Author: sethamtrak

5 - 1:14 late out of CUS
3 - :55 late out of CUS
364 - :55 late out of CUS
341 - 1:07 late out of CUS
48 - 1:39 late out of CUS

Just a bad day? I know the Hiawatha had 500 subbing for a charger. 364 was mechanical but other trains had no Amtrak alerts (possibly cause it's Sunday?)

On the bright side, #7, #21, #30, #48, and #59 got out on time?

Has Winter come early?

This is inexcusable. It's an initial terminal, controlled by Amtrak.

The weather was *really* nice this weekend. Last chance for summer?  Maybe too nice to show up for work before the snow arrives??

Chicago had an outbreak of fair weather this week. The railroad simply can't function under these conditions.

Here we go again.

In 60 days when the temp is 25 degrees, Amtrak will express surprise that winter has arrived.

So, you're ok with trains being delayed for over an hour from their scheduled departure?

If that's what it takes to fix something that was found prior to depature, then yes.  If it was broken when the train left the yard because some schmuck couldn't do his job, then no. Whatever the case, make it right before departure. But you on the other hand, lives in an alternate world where everything is perfect right out of the box. Sorry, but life doesn't work that way and no app on your phone will make it better.

Sure. I'll accept that Amtrak knows how to run a railroad better than you.
Please give details for each delay - no speculation - if you want to second guess.
Otherwise this is just another useless thread.

Passengers do not care why the train was delayed - only that it was delayed.

Amtrak demands funding for route expansion, but can't effectively run what they do have. Consists have been cut, yet trains are still having mechanical issues and locomotives are still breaking down.

What steps is Amtrak taking to reduce delays caused by their own internal issues?

Apparently nothing. Amtrak is so disorganized at this point nobody knows what's going on.

I was hoping someone with knowledge would be able or willing to tell us why half of Amtrak's Chicago departures were an hour late but it does not look like that will happen.

Are you a passenger? Have you ever been a passenger?

What difference does that make?  The passenger has purchased a ticket for a train on an advertised schedule. Amtrak clearly did not meet their end of the agreement.

You seem to speak from an absolute lack of knowledge. Not even a passenger?
How can you speak from the perspective of what a passenger should or should not know if you are not a regular pasenger?
How can you speak from the perspective of what a railroad should or should not do with such limited knowlege?

I found out back in March that the Utah DOT's the same way, I got this 2014 Ford Escape, went to Boise for a basketball Torunament, hung around Salt Lake and Ogeden and then head down I15 to Utah 20 to head home, expecting to get back into Flag by midnight if not a bit later, I see a huge storm cloud on the mountain pass past Lehi and between there and Beaver a snow squall hits, slowing down traffic, get stuck there for like 3 hours while at the last minute a snowplow's behind me trying to get through and I'm thinking, "The Utah DOT should've had them out way before the storm hit!" Found out they're known for that and I know the biggest complaints they always get is from truckers! What happened with staying ahead of the pack!
