Amtrak Iowa, Now With Varnish
Author: walstib

I have long wanted to be on the ground in Iowa to see both the California Zephyr and Southwest Chief crossing the mighty Mississippi River heading west.

It never occurred to me until today that I could accomplish both on the same day. So, that's what I did.

I started out in Burlington, where I saw the Zephyr come across the river, and into Iowa. Then, it was down to Fort Madison for the Southwest Chief.

The first video clip shows the Chief leaving Fort Madison, the second the Zephyr, which was traveling with two private cars today.

Nice backdrop for the Cal Zephyr.  Who owns & operates those private Charter cars?

You missed your chances for a cameo or two.

Nice videos, those are nice cars bringing up the rear on no 5, am looking (hopefully) that 3 and 4'll look that no. 5 that you shot, I hate how now it looks like a longer version of the Desert Wind!
