Passenger Trains > Red Bird Grounded over the weekendDate: 01/15/22 08:20 Red Bird Grounded over the weekend Author: PC1974 After making only on one trip last week, things did improve with the Cardinal (Red Bird) running 2 trips this week. Train ran late eastbound both trips thanks to equipment issues, but ran OT westbound. But the week has ended early, to avoid opportunity for the Red Bird to get Black Eye with the weather forecast. All weather mode transportation is a bust, which tells me this is novelty transportation. You have to wait 3 days for the next chance to ride this train, NOT!

If anybody’s around that remembers, did Chesapeake and Ohio cancel service between Cincinnati and Washington DC every time it snowed? The railroad used to advertise that they were the all weather mode of travel, apparently that’s not true with the incompetent Amtrak. On the other hand with Amtrak’s equipment breakdowns and ineptitude, you probably don’t want to strand people in the middle of a snowstorm in West Virginia. Posted from iPhone Edited 2 time(s). Gee, if only the Government had invested the billions of dollars flushed down the highway system and air travel infrastructure on railroads, then maybe the railroads would be able to provide that level of service. Are you saying that after those investments are paid out, Amtrak will not cancel trains for weather? Date: 01/16/22 12:30 Re: Red Bird Grounded over the weekend Author: cutboy1958 As it stands now in Cincinnati 3:30 pm no snow. Both 50 and 51 would have been fine!!

There is plenty of snow and freezing rain in western Virginia, however, which is where 50 and 51 would be now. Are you saying that after those investments are paid out, Amtrak will not cancel trains for weather? Fascinating. Not only has Amtrak not received the money yet - so how could that possibly have any effect yet - but how much of the pot is supposed to go to the privately owned freight railroads to increase capacity and maintenance? Zip! After all, isn't spending money to clear trees from the right of way stealing from the shareholders? Brian Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/17/22 07:17 by choodude. Pretty obvious I was talking in the future. >but how much of the pot is supposed > to go to the privately owned freight railroads to > increase capacity and maintenance? > > Zip! ------------------------------------------------------- > So it is tax money wasted? It won't help Amtrak become more reliable? Fantastic. Following your logic Amtrak should definitely dump long distance passenger trains. The money Amtrak has proposed to spend on new long distance equipment, maintenance facilities and employees will not fix the privately owned frieight railroads "passenger train interference" problems. Better spend the money on corridors that Amtrak owns or can negotiate contract service agreements. Brian |
