Passenger Trains > Amtrak Conductor Dies in Fall from Train

Conductor of Amtrak #163 (BOS-WAS) tragically died this afternoon (1/15) after a fall from Northeast Regional #163 at Westerly RI. Details are minimal (understandably). Horrible. Thoughts to her family and co-workers.

That sucks, hope the train wasn't still in motion because that's the only conculsion I could thing would've caused it!

Often, Conductors and Assistant Conductors brakemen stand in the open door as the train departs a station.  At a low platform station, they often are raising the steps, releasing and closing the trap and closing/sliding the door as the train is already in motion. 

Yes, I did this myself often when I was active...no sliding doors then, however, and on much of our railroad's equipment the steps were fixed in place. 

I am not saying this was what caused this tragic incident...just saying that when doing this, one had to be very careful.

After reading this my stomach is in knots. Prayers for her family and the rest of her crew she was working with.

26 years old she was.... Had a great job and she probably had high hopes for the future... At least while it sounds like it was pretty gruesome, it was also probably, mercifully,  somewhat quick. God Bless her soul and may He be with her family and friends and may He also protect every Amtrak employee and rider from accidents and hardship in the future.

This is absolutely horrible. Prayers and deepest sympathy to all involved, especially the family of this young lady.

I agree with you 100%, and may God Bless all of our railroad workers as their jobs continue to be herder to accomplish.
