cross border passenger service

It seems Amtrak has once again postponed reinstatement of cross border passenger service, citing a lack of personnel.

Yup. WSDOT has an almost NEC attitude about our very own flyover country. Train can't go to and from Canada, so Bellingham, Mt Vernon, Stanwood, Everett, and Edmonds got no service. Now, WSDOT wants a train and all the folks were laid off because they didn't. Sounds like a Class 1 railroad, doesn't it?

Same thing has applied to the Adirondack between New York and Montreal. its New York-Albany slot is filled, but the train doesn't run beyond there, which cuts service in half at Saratoga Springs and Fort Edward, cancels all service to other stations north of there.

It is frustrating that cross international border Amtrak service hasn't resumed. It doesn't just affect people who are heading to Canada. Unfortunately people who are heading to towns north of Everett on the Cascades are affected a lot. Unfortunately there is still a crew shortage out there so that is affecting when service across the international border will be restored. Existing crew members have to get requalified with the territory plus new crew has to be qualified so that way the cross border procedures are done correctly.

No the slot is not filled betwen NYP and ALB, There is a 3 hour gap in each direction.

CBP is having trouble finding agents. This isn't just a railroad problem.

That's even more unfortunate.

The Ethan Allen does not stop in Whitehall unless a new platform was built for it. The Rutland branch junction is south of the Amtrak station.

It will happen. Eventually. Can not  run  trains  with no  crews. Know  any mechanical  people? Amtrak  could  use  them!!
