Interesting article, with a few places getting the old cars after retirement - it would be nice if a railroad museum could get one.

Of course - the 5'-6" gauge might be a problem for most museums.  Perhaps Oracle Park could work one into their outfield display.

Could they be retrucked at standard gauge ?

Seeing any government owned & operated entity make do with old equipment does my old tax paying heart good.

BART does offer old cars for donation to qualified organizations.

So if there is a museum that wants one and has the means to feed and care for it, that can happen.

Oracle park could put one in the outfield, like Minutemaid steam engine in Houston. Then every time the Giants hit a home run it could go back and forth making that horrible high pitch screeching sound :-)

No mention of MacGyver? Sounds like they need him.

The Western Railway Museum is getting some cars and will be building a new rapid transit history center.  They will be on static display.  Besides the track gauge, there's also the issue with the BART cars using third rail and WRM only having overhead wire also BART uses 1000 VDC and WRM has 600 VDC.

Great article. Railfan & Railroad magazine had a good article on the early years of BART.

Outlets with a paywall often syndicate their stuff to others. I search the headline in its entirety and see if I score:

Remember:

Those mechanics contribute nothing to the bottom line. Only executive Risk Takers make any money for ventures such as this.
