I think this train is currently 4 hours 38 minutes late,

The Chief arriving Chicago today is 4 hours 12 minutes late

The Eagle arriving St. Louis today is 6 hours 48 minutes late

The NB Auto Train is 3 hours 48 minutes late.

Amtrak is such a mess.  Can't wait for the STB to take up the On-Time Case.

Here's some of what I';ve been watching on the southwest Chief: Train 3 11/14  from Chicago. On 11/15 operating 3:45 late - mechanical issues and freight delays. On 11/16, delayed in Flagstaff (FLG) due to a freight train incident. Arrived 8:29 late at Los Angeles at 4:29 p.m. on 11/16 Train 4 11/15 from Los Angeles delayed in Kingman due to the same  freight train incident that stopped 3 (15) above. 2:45 late at Gallup NM. Southwest Chief Train 4, which then stopped east of Las Vegas due to a disabled vehicle on the tracks along the route ahead. On 11/17, 4:13 late at Newton KS Train 4 11/16 left Los Angeles on time at 5:55 p.m. (only 1:26 after arrival of Train 3)  but then had to reverse back to Los Angeles for assistance due to mechanical issues. Departed again 4 1/2 hours late. On 11/17, 4:38 late at Kingman AZ.

And when they "discover" that many of the delays are caused by Amtrak themself what are they going to do?

Here's what I know from reading the very detail "On Time Matrix", developed by the Federal Railroad Administration -
which will be used by the STB in the up-coming On Time case.

The "Matrix" defines exactly what "Late" means (in extreme detail) - and not just the end-point arrival.
For example - if the Chief is on-time at Chicago (padding) - but was late 1 hour at Kansas City - a fine could be charged
against whoever caused the late KC arrival.

Yes, if Amtrak caused the delay - they could be fined.  But, lucky for Amtrak, ..freight train interference is the overwhelming cause.

No fines will be assesed for late trains caused by -road crossing accidents; police action, Acts of God, etc.

The dollar amount of fines (which the STB calls "Remedies") will be determined at the up-comming trial.

ronald,

from what i have seen out here, the bnsf's freights get dumped well in advance of amtrak, even IF amtrak is hours late.

here is a video depicting some mighty fine treatment of another very late #4 by the bnsf a while ago...........

That's understandable, wonder why you can't accept that Ronald, always assuming with a very late train passengers "suffer!"
