Passenger Trains > Is this the worst editing blunder of this year?

Classic Trains, Winter 2022 issue, just came and I began reading “Three decades of RDC” and I quote the 8th line in the article: “Powered by a pair of rooftop 275-horsepower General Motors diesel engines, the stainless steel, lightweight 85-foot RDC promised to  cut operating costs.”  Maybe the words should be “rooftop ventilated”.  There are no engines on the roof.  The radiator and fans are in the hump on the roof.  This spoiled my interest to read the rest of the article.

Who wrote it?

This isn't Classic Trains first major error. There have been many over the years. Typical Kalmbach product...

I was never a big fan of their "Fairbanks Morris"  engines, either...

There's multiple editing failures in this issue alone. Each one just causes a slight wince when I see it.
Given the amount of time they have between issues to copy edit, it's entirely unacceptable to have this level of unprofessional writing go to print.
Not (entirely) the author's fault, but a reasonable fact-check and rigorous editing by the Classic Trains staff should catch these obvious errors.
 

Agreed. My former English teachers would have had fun with their red pens in this latest issue.

Mine came and only the advertising cover was there and the magazine missing. Now I'll have to go to Barns nd Noble and get a copy. Yea for the Post Office.

I used to think the engines were up there, a lot of writers said that.  The only ones I saw were BC rails just before they merged, ran like gangbusters thru the forest.

There's no harm in assuming until one has to publish the misinformation to a large audience. I'm sure I have my share of misinformation, but fortunately here on TO, I can edit it later, with "Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/23/22 17:55 by (whoever)" as evidence of the change.

I don't think this was the worst editing blunder of this year, or any other year. Imagine misinformation that's deliberate that "seems" right, counting on fools to spread it like propaganda. Beware of people who are supposed to be "experts." There are some here who know exactly what I'm talking about. Life and Times in the Empire of Lies.
