Passenger Trains > Ski Train is backDate: 11/30/22 14:05 Ski Train is back Author: dan Official word from the CZ fb group, starting jan 13.
shorter than last year due to the equipment shortage was also stated, so it looks like Beech Grove will still have no effect on cars by January. Date: 11/30/22 14:18 Re: Ski Train is back Author: joemvcnj Do any OBS people staff the cafe car, or isn't there one ?
Date: 11/30/22 14:26 Re: Ski Train is back Author: dan there was last couple of years

What’s the consist details Posted from iPhone Date: 11/30/22 14:51 Re: Ski Train is back Author: sagehen Does that mean Trains 27/28 (Portland half of the Empire Builder) will lose its Coach-Baggage and have to tow a Transition Dorm or Baggage Car to replace it? Last season the ski train used up the Coach-Baggage cars.

Date: 11/30/22 16:02 Re: Ski Train is back Author: jp1822 The Ski Train is two stops - Denver and Winter Park. Can't they use a Viewliner baggage car for the trip, rather than displacing the Portland section of the Empire Builder....... Skis and other luggage would actually fit better in the baggage car than trying to use a Superliner Coach-Baggage car.........

But wouldn't using the Viewliner Baggage give you the high level to low level coupling problem? i.e. mismatched diaphragms. Date: 11/30/22 19:31 Re: Ski Train is back Author: dan i think the diaphrams can handle it? being mis matched, doesn't that occur on regular trains.
The amtrak lounge car attendent may just get flow in and out, a few years ago the engine crew got at least one guy to live out here, for the duration. Date: 11/30/22 23:24 Re: Ski Train is back Author: PHall dan Wrote:

On the front end of the Transition-Dorm the door and the diaphragm are at the low level height so no mismatch. Date: 12/01/22 04:08 Re: Ski Train is back Author: joemvcnj Baggage cars have a tubular diaphragm, so can be coupled to anything.
Date: 12/01/22 06:54 Re: Ski Train is back Author: symph1 Hundreds of pairs of skis and other equipment, loaded and unloaded twice for each round trip: the low level baggage doors are MUCH easier than passing them up.Scroll through the pics here and you'll see what I mean. https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?4,5430887,5431377#msg-5431377

Date: 12/01/22 11:18 Re: Ski Train is back Author: dan denver crews are tight, as everywhere, been times the train5/6 gets held waiting for a rested crew, as happened thru out the west
another benefit of ski train operations , is that the power sometimes becomes protect power for the CZ |
