Official word from the CZ fb group, starting jan 13.

shorter than last year due to the equipment shortage  was also stated, so it looks like Beech Grove will still have no effect on cars by January.

Do any OBS people staff the cafe car, or isn't there one ?

Does that mean Trains 27/28 (Portland half of the Empire Builder) will lose its Coach-Baggage and have to tow a Transition Dorm or Baggage Car to replace it?  Last season the ski train used up the Coach-Baggage cars.

So they have to deadhead someone out from Chicago for the weekend ? Easier said than done. 

The Ski Train is two stops - Denver and Winter Park. Can't they use a Viewliner baggage car for the trip, rather than displacing the Portland section of the Empire Builder....... Skis and other luggage would actually fit better in the baggage car than trying to use a Superliner Coach-Baggage car.........

But wouldn't using the Viewliner Baggage give you the high level to low level coupling problem? i.e. mismatched diaphragms.

i think the diaphrams can handle it? being mis matched, doesn't that occur on regular trains.

The amtrak lounge car attendent may just get flow in and out, a few years ago the engine crew got at least one guy to live out here, for the duration.

On the front end of the Transition-Dorm the door and the diaphragm are at the low level height so no mismatch.

Well, they had been running on the rear end of a Superliner consist too!

Baggage cars have a tubular diaphragm, so can be coupled to anything.

Never been a trans Dorm On the ski train that I can recall we will have to see who the advertising sponsor is this year for the wraps

Maybe they only have enough bodies to cover 5/6 and that's it.

denver crews are tight, as everywhere, been times the train5/6 gets held waiting for a rested crew, as happened thru out the west

another benefit of ski train operations , is that the power sometimes becomes protect power for the CZ
