Passenger Trains > Sunset Minor Schedule Change Effective 1/23/23

Minor schedule changes to 1/2 effective today. In an effort to reduce congestion in Tucson; Fueling and daily engine inspections have been moved to UP's Santa Teresa Facility just west of El Paso. Tucson stop has been shorted to 20 mins and schedule has been re-timed between El Paso and Tucson with a 45 min add between El Paso and Deming to accomodate the new servicing point. It makes sense to move it to Santa Teresa as both engines can be fueled at the same time identically to how they're done at Kirby in San Antonio. This has been in the works for some time, prior to the STB OTP case. 

For Train 1 WESTBOUND to LAX:

• 1:25pm - El Paso Arrival
• 1:50pm - El Paso Departure
• 3:58pm - Deming, NM
• 4:53pm - Lordsburg, NM
• 6:58pm - Benson, AZ (MST)
• 8:20pm - Tucson Arrival (MST)
• 8:35pm - Tucson Depature (MST)

For Train 2 EASTBOUND to NOL:

• 8:28am - Tucson Arrival (MST)
• 8:43am - Tucson Depature (MST)
• 9:43am - Benson, AZ (MST)
• 11:43am - Lordsburg, NM
• 12:38pm - Deming, NM
• 3:20pm - El Paso Arrival
• 3:35pm - El Paso Depature

Will UP crews do the inspections and fueling? 
 

Inspections will still be the Amtrak engine crew, fueling will be UP crews that are already based at the pads. Similar practice takes place at Kirby in San Antonio however the daily inspection is performed at the San Antonio station. 

I wonder if the fuel tax is different between New Mexico and Arizona?

Ah gotcha. Seems more efficient for UP crews to do it so a crew does not wait around all day for just one train.

Do they still fuel in San Antonio? If so that's not a good fuel range for 1 and 2!
