Passenger Trains > Amtrak #2 Sunset Limited at Stafford TXDate: 01/23/23 19:08 Amtrak #2 Sunset Limited at Stafford TX Author: gonx Amtrak #2 Sunset Limited near Houston TX on 1/22/23
It stopped about 5 miles east of my location by either red signals or PTC problems. Sorry I wasn't listening to any RR radio feeds. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/23/23 19:10 by gonx. The Sunset, being the "oldest, continuously operating name train" in the Amtk system.
SP got it going in 1894; it'll be 130 years old next year. I checked Wiki on those dates, just to be sure! Date: 01/24/23 11:27 Re: Amtrak #2 Sunset Limited at Stafford TX Author: BigSkyBlue OldPorter Wrote:

Good photo, too short train, and along with this notable and interesting date, there are a couple other notables about the "Sunset": It is, AFAIK, the only Amtrak train that carries the same numbers that it did prior to Amtrak on 5/1/71: 1 and 2. It is the only Amtrak long distance route that has no other passenger service. Exact detail: Between Mission Tower in LA and East Bridge Jct. in New Orleans, there is no other passenger service of any kind on 1 and 2's route except the mile or so from Tower 112 to the Station at San Antonio that the Texas Eagle uses.
