Change In Train Number
Author: fredstout

Yesterdays #3 into Flagstaff was listed as 1003. It was due into Flafstaff at a more or less usual time. Was this train number change caused by other disruptions on #3 or #4?

I noticed a train 1006 and a 1008 yesterday too. I had forgotten the reason.

Not for BNSF, it's more for Amtrak's computer which needs it to handle the change in schedule midroute.

Glad you asked, had noticed it for the Zephyr and was wondering if it had something to do with the delays lately.  Time change make a lot more sense.

Airlines do this sometimes as well. It's about the underlying operating system. In the airline systems it was about the way they counted days and changed them into dates which meant having the same flight number twice on he same day was a nono!

11 & 14 remain in the same time zone.

1 & 2 do not run everyday.
