Passenger Trains > Lakeshore Limited Boston Section #449Date: 03/18/23 18:45 Lakeshore Limited Boston Section #449 Author: dwatry Here's a shot of today's westbound Lakeshore Limited Boston section, train #449 at about 1:15pm rolling through Wellesley Square MA MBTA station right on time. I'm assuming one of the Amfleet cars is a cafe car, though I did not confirm.

Indeed the 2nd car is a cafe car as verified by eyeballing train 49/449's passage on the Fairport live cam at 2349. The building on the right is the Wellesley Square Post Office and it occupies the site of the "Richardsonian Romanesque" stone depot built in 1889 for the B&A and demolished in 1962. Interestingly, the wood frame depot built for the Boston & Western in 1850 that was the initial Wellesley depot on this site was relocated a half mile east in 1889 and still stands today used as part of Captain Marden's Seafood restaurant. Boston serves as the connection for New Haven. 99% of the time the two units run thru, but if Albany needs to cycle a unit out, 448 will drop it's lead unit in Albany and the next day, 449 will pick up a new leader while combining with 49.
