L.A. Metro Regional Connector to Open June 16
Author: milepost20

The Los Angeles Metro light rail Regional Connector will open to the public
on June 16.  The new 1.9 mile subway will finally link together the two light
rail networks on opposite sides of downtown.  Riders will no longer have to use
the heavy rail subway as a link.  Three new stations will also open.

The L line designation will be eliminated.  The northeastern leg of the L to Azusa
will be through lined with the A line to Long Beach(now called the A
throughout).  I don't have the numbers but this could turn out to be the
longest light rail line in the country.  The eastern leg of the L to East L.A.
will be through lined with the E line to Santa Monica(now the E throughout).

The dashed lines on the map represent the new route.  The billion-dollar-a-mile
project came in at a cool $1.8 billion.

Edit: you'll have to do some heavy zooming in but the following detailed track map
does show the new connection:

Wow! I did not know that this project was being built. It looks great and should be a boost for public transit.

Is this addition having any impact on real estate development close by?

This was a surprise for me too.  Los Angeles is putting in the work.

One of the most critical light rail projects ever is finally going to open. A mile of brand new light rail trackage in a major downtown area can make a huge difference. One would be able to take take a light rail from 7th St/Metro Center to Little Tokyo/Arts District. Somebody would even be able to take a one seat ride from as far as as Azuza to Long Beach.

Looks great to me, glad they still got the Metro Center as a connection since that's still critical, way to go City of Los Angeles!

The trains I saw yesterday while driving I-210 in Pasadena were already using the A Long Beach and A Union Station destination signs.

Didn’t realize they were so close to opening, that’s great news. Hopefully I’ll get to check it out the next time I’m in LA.

It’s opening several years behind schedule and with the interline to Long Beach via South L.A. to Azusa, the route to Pasadena will no longer be the “safe” one.

Thanks for this post.  I received an Email from the Gold Line Foothill Extension project today that included a map, but yours is better.  It will be a one-train ride from Azusa to Crypto.com Arena (formerly Staples Center) at Pico for sporting events, instead of the 3 in the past.
