Passenger Trains > section pullman on the CZ Zepher

The original consist of the CZ had a section sleeping car. But I think it was pulled off within a year or so of
the trains inaugural run. Does anybody recall the approximate date this occurred?

I think the 16-section cars ran for close to ten years before being converted to "flat top" coaches.

Karl Zimmerman reports in his book on the CZ that the 16 section sleepers were converted to coaches in 1963-64

The Burlington California Zephyr timetable in this Guide (page 748) shows 16 Section Pullman car CZ-12 as operating June 11 through September 13. The Rio Grande and Western Pacific timetables don't show it. The Burlington equipment listing appears to be most detailed, mentioning things like the "Cable Car" lounge, etc.

If my memory serves me correctly, the section cars were the last to be sold as people thought that sections were old fashioned. The 1938 20th Century and Broadway had no open sections. Also, the GN had some lightweight sleepers with section accommodations which also where the last to be sold. Pullman rebuilt those into enclosed accommodations.
