Mobile to New Orleans Service Schedules?
Author: amtrakbill

Just wondering if anyone has seen the proposed schedules of the Mobile to New Orleans service?

Wondering if Amtrak will be using these trains to feed traffic to the Sunset Limited (9am departure), or to the Crescent (915am departure), or the City of New Orleans (145pm departure)?

Or ignoring these connections with the new schedules?

Supposedly there will be two round-trips a day, although it wouldn't surprise me if the service is launched with only one. The 1996-1997 timetable for the Gulf Coast Limited had train 23 departing Mobile 6:30 am, arriving New Orleans 9:45 am; train 24 departing New Orleans 5:45 pm, arriving Mobile 8:55 pm.

I don't imagine connections at New Orleans are a major consideration. If they happen, great. If not, too bad.

With the way they keep hitting cars at grade crossings they may be lucky to get in one run a day!

1/3rd of the Horizon fleet is idle.

If they were smart. They would restore the Gulf Breeze Segment.
And run a Birmingham-Mobile train that could connect to the Crescent at Birmingham.
Permitting that the Cresent is running on time. If they would even a little smarter.
They could ran the service from New Orleans all the way to Birmingham via Mobile.

I agree GP25, but even making a connection in New Orleans it seemed you have to overnight there just to make a connection anyway between the Sunset, Crescent, and City!

The only good connection you might have.
Would be with the City of New Orleans.
As it has amore ideal departure and arrival times from New Orleans.

The Sunset Limited would be the only one. That you would have to overnight for.
As for the Crescent. You wouldn't need to overnight. If you had the Gulf Breeze
connection at Birmingham.
