Author: wpjones

UP's Super bowl special was to leave CB today at 5:30 with 26 cars down the FallsCity sub.
Only one Dome Mostly sleepers
Steve
I found out this evening that the last two cars added when they left were another Dome and Idaho to fill out the 26 cars

26 cars.  Sounds like the old "City of Everywhere."  I didn't know they still had that many cars in their fleet, though maybe there are some private cars in there.

I doubt that the UP would include ANY "private cars", as they have lots, and LOTS of passenger equipment in their Heritage Fleet.

Not as many “lots” as they used to.

Yes, and all their old E-units went the way of the original “covered wagons” about 1979 or so!
And they had a lot of them, too!!

A friend saw it on the Golden State Route southwest of Herington, Kansas about an hour ago.  Said it was a nice looking train.

Passenger train finally returns to Las Vegas.

Because there is no connection to Las Vegas on this route, it will need to go to LA for boarding their business passengers.

They can back it around the balloon track at West Colton. Probably a good place to top off the water tanks and such too.

Who's aboard the train enroute? Train staff, or other employees? When they arrive at the location, what fun things goes on among the cars, receptions for shippers or vendors? Events related to the teams playing? Any public events? UP 4014 consessions aboard UPP 5769 Council Bluffs?
Station service for meetings, gatherings? Who enjoys all those sleepers?

Why only one dome? Is it UPP 9004 Harriman? Not including UPP 8004 Colorado Eagle as table car?

No videos posted yet ...

PS - Let start a rumor: Taylor Swift chartered the train ... wow! 1,000 videos posted already ... ha ha!

I can’t speak for the UP Super Bowl train but, I was a guest on BNSF’s Super Bowl train in 1996.

We boarded the train in San Bernardino and rode overnight and most of the next day to the Phoenix area (El Mirage specifically) arriving Saturday afternoon. There were only a handful of shippers on board along with a number of senior officers of BNSF and, of course, the onboard office car crew. Informal meetings were held on board while we were enroute to Phoenix. Once in the Phoenix area, the train was essentially a hotel. We slept on board and had breakfast before departing to various Super Bowl related activities / venues. BNSF had a number of limousines reserved for our use to and from the train including to the airport the day after the game.

With the current version of Super Bowl trains, I suspect the guests and railroad officers fly to the Super Bowl city and simply use the train as a hotel. In this day and age, who actually has time for a train trip and the opportunity to interact with each other in a relaxed venue. (Sarcasm intended…)
