Passenger Trains > Amtrak 80 9/4 - what happened?Date: 09/04/24 19:23 Amtrak 80 9/4 - what happened? Author: RMD23 I happened to watch EB/NB AMTK 80 by Thomasville, NC on Virtual Railfan while drinking coffee this morning, and now I see it is juust leaving DC. Wondering what happened to it? Looks like it was in Greensboro for 4 hours+?

I was on the Crescent years ago in Louisiana and we hit two trespassers. The delay was 2 hours. The crew did continue. I am pretty sure that I would not be able to finish the run if I were in the cab. Date: 09/05/24 05:11 Re: Amtrak 80 9/4 - what happened? Author: DirtyShirt I don't think "trespasser coming in contact with the train" tells the story accurately in this situation. What actually happened is that 80 struck a telescoping boom construction forklift at a grade crossing between High Point and Greensboro. The collision resulted in the death of the forklift operator.

Most likely if it was a fatality the appropriate corner must come out and investigate. Depending upon the area, that may take a couple hours for the corner to just arrive. But at the scene of an accident death, it's the same thing.
