Los Angeles's Metrolink newly added service off to a bumpy start
Author: GP25

Looks like things didn't go according to plan.
When Metrolink added new trains back on Monday.

Has anyone here experience any problems yet, while riding Metrolink this week?

It should be stated that Monday's new schedule wasn't just adding new trains, the entire schedule was changed, including switching to the "memory schedule" system were all (or nearly all) trains in a specific direction at a specific station arrive at the same time after the hour (6:34, 7:34, 8:34 etc.) Its probably the biggest schedule change Metrolink has ever done.

My friends made it to the Dodger game (won!) yesterday from Upland with no problems.

Seems like the problems are primarily around those that were not prepared for the changes, not that Metrolink itself suffered operational problems.

I spent a good amount of time stopped on the San Bernardino Sub yesterday afternoon on 618 between Soto and Norwalk. I got the distinct impression that we were collateral damage in an ongoing tug of war between DS15 and some of the manifest / local crew(s) working on the main. Dispatcher claimed be unaware a train was stopped and as a result her "Metros were piling up," train crew was unable or unwilling to pull up the last little bit needed to clear a control point so we could get around them...and then didnt mention that they would be moving in less time than it would take to time out signals and get us a new route. I suppose the new schedules are an adjustment for any jobs that are accustomed to working off of the main track(s) at specific, especialy given the substantial increase in midday service.

I am also curious what the equipment utilization looks like from a Metrolink standpoint with the new schedule. If the goal of the "optimization" was to serve more stations with fewer crews and less trainsets than perhaps the impact of a delay or cancellation is greater also. Hopefully the bugs get worked out soon.

How did they get home ? Last train to Upland leaves L.A. at 8:38 pm. Did they leave in the middle of the game ?

I used to sit on a freight train stopped at Pasadena Jct. I would see the mid day trains pass by with few people. Same way with the LAUPT turns to Burbank and back. There wasn't enough people on these trains to pay for the drinking water or brake shoes and fuel.
I don't understand these decisions.
