Passenger Trains > Amtrak 3, SW Chief, Running some 16-hours Late

Amtrak's Southwest Chief, train 3, that hit a vehicle in New Mexico on 23 November 2024 was running 15 hours and 50 minutes late out of Lamy, NM, as of 5:15 AM on Sunday, 24 Nov 2024.

16 hours to get a relief crew, damage to the engine ?  What will they do with the #4 they are supposed to turn back on ?

I am guessing that train 4(24) will use the trainset currently in Los Angeles for train 2(24) and that train 2(24) will use the inbound trainset from train 3(22)

That would be great, but from recent actions by Amtrak it is more likely they will just cancel it.

They didn't cancel it. It left LA, probably with Sunset equipment mostly, and is now 2 hours late in Arizona. 

The Southwest Chief appears to be down to Superliner Trans-Dorm Sleeper and just ONE Superliner Sleeper, AGAIN! Just when things were looking up.
