Passenger Trains > SW Chief 3(7) reportDate: 01/08/25 13:27 SW Chief 3(7) report Author: GenePoon Unauthorized crosspost from a Facebook SWChief page...a public post:
"It was bound to happen at some point… For as much as I have traveled on Amtrak over the last 30+ years, I have had very few major issues. The odds finally caught up with me again. Boarded 3 yesterday in Chicago. We made it as far as just east of Princeton when we hit some type of debris at a high rate of speed (sounded like a huge pile of rocks from inside my car - just speculation). It’s been downhill since then. Sometime last night, car 530 had an actual fire (flames) requiring those sleeper passengers to be moved to other cars on the train (think coach and observation car). We have stopped numerous times for additional mechanical issues (no surprise after the ‘flying rocks’ incident), including more than an hour in Hutchinson, KS this morning. We are currently amidst a field somewhere west of Hutchinson waiting for a new crew from Dodge City to relieve the timed-out crew. Should make it to the LA wildfires sometime this month… Good news, I am safe, our crew has done the best they can under the circumstances, and I do not have the stress of worrying about my life and possessions as the people in SO CAL have today. Life is an adventure and we decide whether we want it to ruin our limited days or roll with the punches. Life has already hit me with some powerful punches, so I’ll place this one in the minor inconvenience category. Happy New Year! Oh, the places we’ll go." 😆 ==================== Current OS 5 1/2 late.
